The industry can lower emissions without risking its competitiveness.
Green house gas (GHG) emissions can be lowered in industry sectors by constantly increasing energy efficiency and through the systematic capturing of GHG. Of the evaluated measures- 30 Million tons of GHG- two thirds proved to be feasible. The necessary investments pay off due to the energy saved. After implementing the measures, the energy efficiency of the production grows continuously by an annual 1.6 percent through 2020. Meanwhile the industrial volume of production grows by about 2 percent annually over the same time period. Altogether the absolute GHG emissions remain approximately constant until 2020, compared to current levels.
