The German industry recognizes its responsibility concerning climate protection. The companies provide numerous solutions to increase energy efficiency and reduce green house gas emissions.

Transport

„Also and especially in the transportation sector, economic efficiency and climate protection are closely related. With its efficient and thus climate friendly solutions the German industry successfully approaches markets in the transportation sector – this applying to car, rail, and naval traffic, as well as aviation. In order to constantly lower the emissions of our vehicles, we at Daimler believe in refining conventional engines along with implementing bio fuels and hybridization. In the long run we want to and will drive emission-free – with batteries and fuel cells. Generally speaking: Truly sustainable transportation does not only require efficient technological concepts, but also sufficient traffic infrastructure, along with an intelligent network connecting all means of transportation. Whatever the automotive industry can contribute to effective climate protection, it will.“

Energy

„Lignite is Germany’s most important local energy source. Its special plus: It does not need public subsidies and will be available for several decades. So for RWE Power the question asked is not lignite – yes or no, but how we can we convert it to electricity even more efficiently and hence more climate-friendly than in the past.“

Vice President Research & Development, RWE Power AG

Buildings

“Climate protection is possible: In almost all fields of generation, transmission, and usage of energy, Siemens offers plenty of solutions to increase energy efficiency and lower green house gas emissions. In this field we hold 30 000 patents and annually invest over two billion euro in research and development of environmental technologies.”

Industry

„Many K+S sites have their own power plants which are equipped with the latest installations of Combined Heat and Power (CHP) technologies. Thanks to successful improvement measures, the efficiency of our power plants reaches more than 90 percent. For the past years, these facilities have thus been contributing significantly to the achievement of Germany’s climate goals.“

Dr. Heinz-Jürgen Barge
K+S AG, Head of Engineering Technology/ Energy
