Mission
It is beyond doubt that global climate change will have a considerable impact on the living conditions on earth. In order to counteract this trend, coordinated action by all politicians, scientists, and industry leaders on local, national, and international level is urgently required.
The key question is how climate protection objectives can be pursued in times of global credit crisis and increasing debt. If there is any positive aspect in the current economic crisis, it is the recently established consensus that our actions must be guided by sustainability. The crisis should not be seen as an opportunity to delay climate protection, but rather as an occasion and an opportunity to set the course towards environmental and economic sustainability.
Climate protection is not a luxury that can be dispensed with when times are difficult. After all, many technologies that can help us cut back CO2 emissions make sense economically, as they help to reduce costs and save resources.
Over 40 companies and industry associations work together in the BDI Initiative ‘Business for Climate Protection’. They reflect the full scope and competence of Germany’s industry sector. The members of this initiative are convinced that climate protection must be given the highest priority, particularly in the current economic crisis. Moreover, climate protection is a driver of long-term economic growth and thus helps to secure jobs.
This site provides information on the solutions and products developed by the German industry and their potential contribution to the protection of the global climate. German companies are market leaders in the area of environmental technologies and can already provide numerous solutions for cost-effective climate protection. On this website we also outline the significance of a global climate-policy framework for German industry and express our expectations and recommendations regarding international climate policy.
One thing is certain: The German industry not only has promising strategies for the future, but can look back on successful steps already taken. Together with policymakers, we will continue to intensify our efforts to develop sustainable, innovative solutions for protecting the climate and will support plans to implement them globally.
